On 27.02.2024 we had our latest report launched titled: Language in Public Participation; Understanding and Overcoming Language and Culture Barriers in the Political Participation of people of migrant origin.

The report offers a comprehensive overview of how linguistic and cultural differences influence the political engagement of migrant communities. Emphasising that political bias often stems from perceptions of foreignness, the report identifies language and culture-related factors, such as non-Irish accents and other identity markers not typically associated with Ireland, as triggers for these biases.

This research project, funded by the Irish Research Council under the New Foundations scheme in 2022, is authored by Dr Iker Erdocia (Dublin City University) in collaboration with the New Communities Partnership.

Special thanks to Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development and Charities Joe O’Brien for attending the launch and for his continued support of the migrant population in Ireland.
