This report details the lived experiences, best practices, and Irish laws that impact LGBTI+ individuals living in the International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS). This data was collected via focus groups, allowing members of the LGBTI+ community to share their stories and use their voices to shape better practices for the future. The focus group study results are used to develop informed recommendations, with the aim of improving the support of LGBTI+ asylum seekers, ensuring they are treated with respect, empathy, and dignity, and have their specific needs met.
The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth commissioned LGBT Ireland to undertake this report. Focus groups were held in November 2022, and the report was published in 2023. Collette O'Regan and Mariem Ben Chattouh of LGBT Ireland managed the project, and the research team consisted of Dr Chris Noone, Dr Noemi Magugliani, and Rory Sugrue.
