Government to house 4,000 Refugees

The Government is expected to roll out a fast-track system to streamline the application process for the hundreds of refugees fleeing war-torn Syria who will be relocated in Ireland.

Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald has announced plans to grant access to thousands of migrants fleeing wars in Syria, Eritrea, and Iraq a new home.

The idea is invite in 2,900 “persons seeking international protection”, while an additional 520 refugees are being resettled and 600 others already committed under the EU Relocation programme.

Many of the migrants could land in Ireland over the next few weeks, with a lot more expected by the end of the year.
