Gardaí to tackle long queue times
28 September 2015
New Garda measures are to be introduced today to tackle the extreme length of queue times for visas at the GNIB headquarters in Burgh Quay.
The steps, which come into effect today, mean students from several Dublin universities who are registering for the first time or seeking to renew their registrations will not have to queue at the bureau and Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service office in Dublin.
The online queuing system is in its final stage of testing and is expected to be rolled out in the coming months.
Hundreds of migrants queue from the early hours each day in the hopes of securing their visa stamps.
