Exploring EU Migration Policies: Ireland’s Stakeholders Visit Brussels
18 November 2024
We were thrilled to join a delegation of Ireland’s key stakeholders working in the field of migration on an engaging and insightful visit to the European Commission and the European Parliament in Brussels on the 12th and 13th of November 2024.
This carefully planned program aimed to deepen participants' understanding of the European Union’s migration policies and the vital role played by EU institutions. The visit offered an excellent opportunity to connect with influential policymakers and gain a first-hand perspective on the EU’s approach to migration.
During the visit, the group had the privilege of meeting with Commissioner Mairead McGuinness as well as Irish Members of the European Parliament Barry Andrews, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, and Michael McNamara who engaged with the delegation, sharing their perspectives on migration and the role of Ireland within the broader EU context.
In addition, the delegation held discussions with representatives from the European Commission and EU Parliament working on migration-related policies. The group also visited the Irish Permanent Representation to the EU, where they explored Ireland’s engagement with the EU on migration and related issues.
This visit underscored the importance of collaboration and dialogue in addressing migration challenges and highlighted the shared commitment of Ireland and the EU to finding sustainable, humane solutions. It was an inspiring experience that strengthened connections and fostered a deeper appreciation of the complexities involved in migration policymaking.
As stakeholders in Ireland’s migration landscape, we are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this enriching experience and to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on migration in the EU.
